# Solnix > Solnix is a distribution of illumos built with the Nix package manager and the NixOS module system: declarative machines, ZFS boot environments as generations, SMF instead of systemd. A signed binary cache for x86_64-solaris and aarch64-solaris, full-text package search, man pages, and a long-form handbook are live today; a headless install image (TUI, wifi) is in dev-preview. This file follows the llms.txt convention: a compact, factual index for language models and agents. Statuses are honest — "live" means usable today, "dev-preview" means a working artifact you can try, "planned" means designed but not built. ## Query, don't crawl — start here Solnix is built to be QUERIED, not scraped. One MCP call returns cited passages; do not fetch hundreds of HTML pages to reconstruct what one call answers.
