Community

Solnix development happens in the open: mailing lists with public archives, patches by email, and mirrored source repositories. Here's where to read, ask, and contribute.

Mailing lists

Two public lists, both with web archives you can read right now (no account needed). They're hosted with public-inbox, so every message is also available over NNTP and as a git repository.

announce@solnix.io readable

Low-traffic: releases, cache milestones, security notices. Moderated (post-restricted).

hackers@solnix.io readable

Development discussion and patches. New senders are moderated; automatic posting requires a confirmed subscription, explicit moderator vetting, and a passing sender-authentication check. Banned addresses cannot post.

Subscribe by email (double opt-in). Enter your address and pick a list; we'll send a confirmation link valid for 24 hours. Open it and press Confirm subscription to finish; opening the link alone changes nothing. You can also email the list with the subject subscribe (or unsubscribe) and nothing else. Subscription does not grant posting privileges. Each list email includes an unsubscribe link. You can read the archives without subscribing.

Posts accepted for publication are public, including the sender address, and may be mirrored permanently. Subscriber addresses are not published. Do not send secrets or private attachments.

Pending posts and posting-trust requests are reviewed by a moderator on a private page; most are simply released or admitted. Denying posting trust does not unsubscribe you; a ban is a separate decision. For held posts whose sender authentication passes, we email the reason and a link to cancel the pending post, then send the review outcome in the same email thread. Cancellation cannot recall a post already released. Unauthenticated mail may be held without a reply to avoid notifying a forged sender address.

How the archives work

Each list is a public-inbox, so you can consume it however you like:

# read on the web
https://lists.solnix.io/hackers/

# follow over NNTP
nntp://lists.solnix.io/ (groups: io.solnix.announce, io.solnix.hackers)

# clone the list as a git repo (every message is a commit)
git clone https://lists.solnix.io/hackers/git/0.git hackers

Search the archive: use the search box on either list. For example, search for s:PATCH (subjects containing PATCH), or combine terms with s:subject, f:sender, and d:2026-01-01..2026-12-31. The search help lists the supported syntax. Search results offer downloadable mbox.gz messages or full threads for your mail reader.

Follow hackers Atom or announce Atom without subscribing. The archive's mirror instructions explain how to keep a local copy and search it offline.

Read archives in a mail client

These are public, read-only archives, not personal mailboxes. No subscription or real password is needed. Use SSL/TLS with certificate validation:

POP tracks a download cursor for that identifier; deleting a message in the client never deletes the public archive. For reliable historical browsing and re-reading, prefer IMAP or git. See the handbook for POP history and cursor limitations.

Contributing patches

Solnix follows the patches-by-email model familiar from the Linux kernel and git itself: send a patch series to hackers@solnix.io, discuss, iterate. The full guide is in the handbook.

GitGitGadget-style PR bridge planned

A GitGitGadget-style bridge between pull requests and patch-series email is planned, but not deployed. Working mailing-list delivery is not a PR bridge. For now, send patches by email or use the issue tracker.

Source & archives

Repositories live

Primary hosting on Codeberg; a full mirror is kept in the Solnix git archive.

Git archive live

An independent read-only mirror of every repo, so history survives even if a host disappears.

git clone https://git.solnix.io/solnix-infra.git

Chat

Real-time chat isn't up yet. Development discussion happens on Nix Discourse and the issue tracker alongside the moderated hackers@ list. chat planned
