The X1's Intel Wireless-AC 9560 attaches, associates over WPA2/CCMP, and passes encrypted traffic both ways under Solnix — driven by a port of the OpenBSD iwm driver, packaged as a pure Nix derivation.
A correctness prerequisite for driving laptop GPUs is proven: the wifi (iwm) and Intel GPU (i915) drivers load into one running kernel at once with zero cross-wired symbols. This is a milestone, not a working desktop — the GPU does not yet drive the display.
Solnix installs and runs on a real Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Extreme from a USB image — a full disk install with the NixOS workflow intact (ZFS boot environments, solnix-rebuild, generations, sudo). Headless today; graphics are still in bring-up.
Correction (2026-10-21): this entry overstated it. The COSMIC stack compiles for illumos, but no GPU drives a display yet; see the 2026-10-11 entry. Original summary: System76's COSMIC desktop now runs on Solnix, proving the full graphical stack works on illumos: Rust, Wayland, GTK4, and GPU acceleration via Mesa RADV + Vulkan.
Solnix now has a bootable x86_64 ISO and a raw disk image — an early, unstable-edition preview for testing in a VM.
The binary cache now carries cross-built store paths for non-primary architectures alongside x86_64.
