The Rust compiler now builds from source as a real Solnix derivation, not a repackaged binary. rustc 1.98.0 and 1.99.0 are signed and served from the binary cache, each a genuine bootstrap hop from the one before. This is the toolchain the rest of the native userland is built with.
On a ThinkPad X1 Extreme the Intel Iris Xe GPU now runs real graphics work under Solnix: Mesa's iris driver renders OpenGL ES 3.2 on the hardware and reads the result back, Vulkan enumerates the GPU, and the kernel can put a buffer on the panel. The COSMIC compositor still does not draw a frame — it is blocked on a kernel feature (dma-buf) the illumos DRM port has never had. This is a step toward a graphical environment, not one.
